Diary update 8th January 2009

Hello there, thanks as always for dropping in. I wish you all a very happy and peaceful New Year. How were you celebrations, I haven’t heard of any shenanigans so far so it must have been too cold or we are all getting passed it. We had a pretty quiet time at our place and I have to say I’m glad to see the back of 2008 what with illnesses and bereavements, so here’s looking forward to a good 2009 for all.

I mentioned last time about the Celtic Connections Fringe Club, well the programmes are now printed and available. It will take place upstairs in Dow’s in Dundas Street Glasgow, opposite Queen Street Station. It’s a small comfortable and intimate room, just right for a club situation. It runs from Friday 16th January to Sunday 1st February with a fair variety of events. Cahoots will be performing on the opening night doing the Woody Guthrie story, this show will also be repeated on the afternoon of Sunday 1st Feb. All evening gigs start at 7:30 and our afternoon one starts at 3pm, so a nice way to spend a cold February afternoon.

We will also be performing on Monday 19th January, the organisers have called this a “Country Music Hall of Fame” so we will be concentrating on exactly that, not so much of the “And Western” genre, more you’re John Prine, Steve Earle, Hank Williams, Gillian Welch etc. Yours truly will be doing some solo stuff on Tuesday 27th January, this is a song writing competition and I have been cajoled into performing some of my own compositions, I’m a bit nervous about this but I’ll give it a go.

So there you have it I hope you can come to some of our gigs, it should be said that this event is a not for profit venture intended to give opportunities to less well known acts so give us your support.

Pick up a programme, tickets are available from the band or by calling 01698 815778, ask for Big Jim. Also check out www.glasgowfestivalofsongwriting.co.uk

Cheers for now, hope to see you around.

John.
